MSU Chemistry Hosts 41st Annual MU3C Gathering

Earlier this month, Michigan State Chemistry was proud to host the Midwest Undergraduate Computational Chemistry Consortium (MU3C). Faculty and students from eight different universities visited East Lansing for two incredible days of lectures, discussion, and a celebration of innovation and passion in the field of computational chemistry. Among the events was a series of undergraduate research presentations, a Q&A with faculty on academic chemistry careers, an MSU chemistry graduate student poster exposition, and a tour of the world-renowned FRIB facility.

Founded in 2003, MU3C gathers yearly at a selected university while also offering a virtual conference counterpart during the winter.

This year's consortium was the result of collaborative efforts between Professor Keith Kuwata (Macalester College) and MSU's own Professor Angela K. Wilson, as well as the organizational expertise from Mary Mroz and Brenda Franklin.

"MU3C faculty and their undergraduate research students deeply appreciated the hospitality of the MSU Chemistry Department. The conference gave us great opportunities to learn from each other and from MSU computational chemistry faculty, post-docs, and grad students. What we experienced at MSU was exactly what Dani Kohen, Brent Krueger, and I hoped for when we started MU3C summer conferences 20 years ago."
