It was a fitting finale to a summer of scientific travel stretching from Norway to France.

Following his invited keynote lecture at the 27th Quantum Systems in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology (QSCP-XXVII) conference in Paris, University Distinguished Professor Piotr Piecuch was surprised with the QSCP Senior Scientist Medal of CMOA (Centre de Mécanique Ondulatoire Appliquée).

The award was presented at a formal banquet in the French Senate, and represents another chapter in a lifetime of science -- in 2004, Prof. Piecuch received the CMOA Award for Younger Scientists.

"This was a total surprise to me," Piecuch said, also an MSU Research Foundation Professor "They always keep it a secret, so I had no idea I was even nominated, but this is a high honor."

Piecuch's visit to Paris was the last stop on a continent-spanning trip that saw him share his group's latest breakthroughs at the World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists congress in Oslo, as well as the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science in Menton, France.
