MSU Chemistry graduate student Atanu Ghosh has received the American Chemical Society’s Division of Inorganic Chemistry Young Investigator Award, an honor recognizing the very best in early student scientific achievement.

“This recognition is deeply meaningful, and I am immensely grateful to all my mentors who have guided me along the way—especially my PhD advisor, Jim McCusker, whose mentorship and support have been invaluable,” Ghosh said.

Ghosh will attend the Young Investigator Award symposium at this year’s ACS Fall Meeting, where he will present on the McCusker group’s breakthrough photochemical science.

“Throughout my PhD, I have pursued fundamental questions in inorganic chemistry, designing and executing thought experiments through a combination of ultrafast spectroscopy, synthetic chemistry, and computational approaches,” Ghosh explained.

“This recognition from ACS further inspires me to push the boundaries of innovation and explore new challenges in inorganic photophysics and photochemistry.”

“To be honest, the greatest difficulty I have with Atanu is keeping up with him,” said McCusker, an MSU Foundation Professor and Ghosh’s nominator.

“Coupled with his innate curiosity, eagerness to learn new things, an incredible work ethic, and his genuine interest in working with and learning from other students he has a spectacular career ahead of him.”
