Stem Education Research

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Chemistry at Michigan State University.

The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of extension for a second year based on performance and the availability of funding. The beginning salary will be $56,484.00.

Duties and responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work on STEM research projects including, but not limited to, a project addressing undergraduate chemistry students’ epistemic ideas related to bonding models in predicting chemical phenomena. The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Design assessments, including interview protocols
  • Collect and analyze survey, semi-structured interview and quantitative data as needed
  • Analyze qualitative data using qualitative software packages
  • Describe, in writing, themes emerging from analyses

Education Requirement:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemical education, science education, or a closely related field.

Required qualifications

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong chemistry content knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Strong teaching and mentoring skills
  • Experience in qualitative data collection and data analysis using software packages

Desirable qualifications:

  • Strong record of publication and scholarly writing
  • Curricular development experience
