Building Connection in Industry: Networking and Fun

We are excited to announce a networking event that will be held on October 30th, 2025, at 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM for all PhD students who are interested in meeting Dow people. This is a great opportunity for you to connect with professionals from Dow, a world-leading materials science company, and to learn more about their work.

During the event, you will have the chance to engage in conversations with Dow representatives, ask questions about their research, and discuss potential collaborations. This is an excellent opportunity to expand your professional network and gain valuable insights into the industry.

The event has two components to ensure that attendees have a chance to both network and learn from one another.

  • Speed Networking: In a structured networking format, all the participants will be allowed to meet and interact with multiple individuals in a short amount of time. There will be tables assigned to specific topics for discussion. Attendees will be divided into groups and will be seated at tables that correspond to their area of interest. This will enable attendees to network and share ideas with others who are interested in the same topics. Each table will have a designated leader who will facilitate the discussion and ensure that everyone has a chance to participate.
  • Bowl Game: The second component of the event is a bowl game that adds an element of fun and randomness to the networking experience. A bowl will be passed among a group of attendees, and it will contain slips of paper with random career/professional development topics written on them. Whoever has the bowl will pick a slip from the bowl and respond to the prompt for one minute. This game will encourage attendees to think on their feet and share their thoughts and ideas with others in a lighthearted and engaging manner.

Overall, the networking event is a great opportunity for students to connect with fellow students and professionals who share their interests and to learn from one another. By combining structured discussion with a fun and engaging game, attendees will leave the event with new ideas, new connections, and a sense of camaraderie with their fellow professionals.
