Thomas Hamann is the inaugural James Dye Professor of Materials Chemistry at Michigan
State University. After completing his graduate work with Nate Lewis at Caltech in
2006, Tom joined Joseph Hupp’s group as a postdoc at Northwestern University. In 2008,
Tom started his independent academic career at Michigan State University. His research
interests include the synthesis of mesoscopic materials and investigation of interfacial
electron-transfer and photocatalytic reactions at semiconductor surfaces. He was the
recipient of a DOE early career research award, a NSF CAREER award, a Sloan Fellowship
and the Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award.
