SEVIS I-901 Fee (Before Arriving)

  • Students must pay this fee themselves
  • The Chemistry Dept. will reimburse students after they arrive at MSU

I-9 Forms

§         Must be processed at  OISS (the Office of International Students and Scholars)

§         OISS is located in room

  103 International Center

§         Submit completed I-9 to the Graduate Office (381 Chemistry Building)

§         Bring Social Security Card to the Graduate Office when submitting I-9

 

W-4

§         Complete at the MSU Payroll Office

§         Room 350 Administration Building

§         Must have Social Security Card

§         Must be completed before September 15th

 

SEP or ITA Orientation

§         International students must attend the Summer English Program or the International TA Orientation

§         Those who have been invited to attend SEP will not attend the ITA Orientation

§         Those who have not been invited to attend SEP must attend the ITA Orientation

§         SEP begins at 9:30 a.m. on 07-18-08 in the International Center Library

 

 

I-20 (Before Arriving)

§         We begin processing an I-20 after receiving a student’s decision to accept our offer

§         It takes about 2 to 3 weeks to process an I-20

§         When the I-20 is ready, we will mail it to you by UPS

§         If your address changes, please let us know before we mail your I-20

 

Social Security Card

§         This card is required in order for students to be paid

§         You will need to apply for the card after you arrive

§         You should receive information about this during the Summer English Program or  ITA Orientation

 

Health Information

§         Testing for tuberculosis (TB) is required after you arrive

§         OISS will give you a date for your TB testing and reading when you check in at their office

§         MSU provides the testing free if you attend one of the designated group sessions (arranged through OISS)

§         Your immigration status is not at risk, regardless of your test results.

§         The University encourages all students to bring a copy of their immunization records with them to the U.S.

Transportation to MSU

  • Lansing Capital City Airport is the closest airport to MSU.
  • Transportation from the airport to MSU must be arranged by the student
  • A taxi will cost about $25 for up to 4 passengers.  You can call for a taxi by using the direct phone lines to the Capital Transport Service at the baggage claim area or at the main entrance of the airline terminal.
  • The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) has a list of international clubs that are sometimes willing to provide transportation from the airport for international students.  For more information, visit the website for OISS and click on International Student Organizations: http://www.isp.msu.edu/oiss/for_students/IAC/index.php
