Supercomputer Facility
Research groups that are using more than 5 GB of space on hbar1 are urged to buy their own disks for home directory space. A 73 GB disk costs about $1400; larger drives are also available. Groups may combine their resources and share disks if they wish. Paul Reed will be happy to help groups select a drive size and place an order. Disks for hbar must be purchased from SGI.
For those groups that choose this option, the drive will be installed as soon as it arrives. After installation, the group members' home directories will be moved to the new disk. The group is then free to use that disk space however they wish. Group-owned disks WILL be backed up.
