Chemical Visualization Facility
To make printing easier from the SGIs, we have replaced the standard IRIX lpr printing command with a shell script of our own. This script is also named lpr, so you may continue using the lpr command to print as you have in the past.
The new lpr will AUTOMATICALLY convert ASCII files (as well as IRIS RGB, TIFF and GIF) to PostScript when necessary before printing.
Usage of the new lpr is as follows:
lpr [-Pprintername] [file1] [file2] ...
If you don't specify a printer name, the script will list all available printers and ask you to select one. If you redirect output (using a pipe) to the script rather than specifying a file, you MUST specify a printer name. For those who wish to use the old lpr, it is now located in /var/opt/lpr.
