Calendar Maintenance Facility
User Instructions
The following instructions will guide authorized users as they create new entries,
modify existing entries, and delete existing entries from the Chemistry Calendar database.

User Instructions for the web-based
Chemistry Calendar Maintenance Facility
Use a web browser (Netscape) and start from the MSU Chemistry home page
http://www.chemistry.msu.edu
Click on the Other Information link.
Click on the Information for Departmental Computer Users link.
Click on the Chemistry Department Calendar Maintenance Facility link.
In the authentication window that pops up, enter your user ID and your password (the ones you use for the Chemistry PC domain). [This window only pops up once for each session with your web browser to enable you to enter and leave the calendar maintenance facility repeatedly without having to log in every time.]
In the Calendar of Events - Edit/Duplicate Entry web page that comes up, you have two options:
A. create a new calendar entry
B. modify or delete an existing calendar entry
A. To create a NEW calendar entry:
Click on the Click here to create a new entry link.
In the Departmental Calendar - Create New Entry web page that comes up, enter all the information for your new calendar entry. [Note that this entry, once created, can be edited later if you need to change, add, or delete any information.]
Note the link in the header of the web page which enables you to view the current contents of the calendar -- you can click on this link, go and view any part of the existing calendar, and use the Back button of your web browser to return to this Create New Entry web page and continue creating your new entry.
When you have entered the desired information, click on the Create This Entry button at the bottom of the web page.
B. To modify or delete an EXISTING calendar entry:
Select the Event Type and select the range of dates which include the existing entry you wish to modify or delete.
In the Edit Calendar of Events web page that comes up, every entry matching the type and dates you specified will be shown. In the left column for every entry shown are two links: Edit and Del.
Clicking on the Del link for an entry will DELETE that entry. As this could be traumatic if done by mistake, be very careful where the mouse is pointing before you click! There is NO "Are you sure?" protection.
Clicking on the Edit link for an entry will bring up a Calendar of Events - Edit Event web page. This page is almost identical to the Create New Entry web page and will show all the information for this existing entry. Change the information as desired, and when finished click on the Update button at the bottom of the web page.
A convenience feature is the Duplicate button at the bottom of the web page. Clicking this button creates a duplicate entry in the calendar database. [If you have a series of events to enter into the calendar which have mostly the same information (say, a recurring meeting for which all the information is the same except the dates), enter a NEW event once into the database, then duplicate it as many times as needed, and then modify each entry to give it the correct date.]
